La Wuandia is a renowned multi-talented Singer/ Songwriter/ Promoter A truly gifted talent who bellows her own interpretation of Real Music: an infusion of Jazz, R&B, Standards, Country and Sprinkles of Funk! She possesses an incredible vocal range with unbelievable control and a powerful sultry, soulful, full-bodied delivery, that is hauntingly compared to the late Phyllis Hyman, as well Gladys Knight and Shirley Bassey. Her raw energetic captive showmanship is ranked among the performances of Tina Turner and James Brown.
La Wuandia began her professional career due to the unceasing encouragement from her sister Sherry, who caught the ear of Sony’s songwriter Michael Gray. Michael suggested LaWuandia take part in an Open Mic Event held at the Cotton Club (Chicago). There she received a standing ovation on her first live stage performance.
She was urged by the late Jimmy ‘Car Wash’ Spinks and comedian/ actor Bernie Mac to return each went on to mold and mentor LaWuandia. That exposure and guidance helped to create a commanding, dynamic, yet enchanting vocalist!!
Later LaWuandia would receive vocal lessons from global acclaimed composer Ms. Lena McLin (niece of Thomas Dorsey), mentorship from Chicago’s Elite promoter Helen-Keller-Wooten of HK Productions. Helen, aka Red not only gave a traveling stage to LaWuandia, Helen Wooten also mentored and educated La Wuandia about the entertainment business world.
La Wuandia has performed in a number of settings opening act for the late Bernie Mac, The Chi-Lites and has shared stages with The O’Jays’, Buddy Guy, George Benson, Bobby Rush, Billy Branch, Norman Connors, R Kelly and Jean Carne among others. She has appeared and performed at the Chicago Theatre, on the nationally syndicated ManCow Radio/TV Show, WGN-TV Morning Show, and has performed in International Jazz Fest, Touring Plays, Award Programs, Cable, Corporate and Private Events.
